Scholarship: Proteus - National Farmworker Jobs Program
Farmworker Youth Leadership Program: A 10-week online evening course for youth ages 16–21 designed specifically for youth who have done farmwork themselves or are children of farmworkers. Participants receive a $250 Visa gift card upon completion as an incentive.
National Farmworker Jobs Program (Youth Grant Program for Graduating Seniors): Students typically begin receiving support after they graduate from high school and are enrolled in college. The program helps guide them based on their interests. While room and board are not covered, funding is available for:
Tuition and books
Up to $1,000 for tools, scrubs, or other required supplies, depending on their major
Classroom Stipend:
$120–$240 every two weeks (with submitted timesheets)
Possible mileage reimbursement for travel over 30 miles (one way)
Eligible Programs: Funding is available for programs that are two years or less, including:
Community college programs
Skilled trades (mechanic, auto body, diesel tech, electrician, etc.)
Medical and healthcare fields
Early childhood education
Agriculture-related fields
Total Award Amount: Typically ranges from $4,000–$6,000
Eligibility Requirements:
Must have farm work experience within the past 2 years (e.g., detasseling, feedlot work, hired farm labor)
Must be considered low-income (the student earning less than $24,000 annually)
Participation in programs such as SNAP or free/reduced lunch may qualify
Must attend a college or program in Nebraska
