Scholarship: University of Nebraska-Omaha- Teacher Scholars Academy Program
Description: The Teacher Scholars Academy is a scholarship program for cohorts of 1st-time undergraduates seeking their teaching degree and teaching certificate. Each Teacher-Scholar receives $5,000 per semester over four years. In addition, every applicant to Teacher Scholars Academy is considered for all College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences scholarships—even if they are not selected as a Scholar.
As a Teacher-Scholar, students will work closely with other high-performing scholars by engaging in frequent seminars, retreats, courses, professional development on aspects of teaching such as classroom management, and special projects specially designed for each cohort. As a result, scholars will graduate with a strong network of professional peers.
For this current cohort, recipients would be agreeing to teach in Omaha Public Schools for a minimum of 4 years after their graduation.
Eligibility Requirements: Teacher Scholars must be first-time freshmen and enrolled in a UNO College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences teacher preparation program:
Elementary Education
Secondary Education
Special Education
Early Childhood Inclusive
Music Education with PK-12 certification
During the selection process, the committee looks for incoming freshmen who have a record of academic excellence, have a passion for teaching, are committed to community engagement, and embody strong leadership characteristics.
Acceptance to the UNO/OPS TSA scholarship program requires a commitment to employment by the Omaha Public Schools upon exiting the TSA program, at a minimum, equal to the number of years in the TSA scholarship program.
Application Deadline: The application opens on March 8th and the deadline to apply is April 19th.
