Scholarship: Nebraska Insurance Federation & Actuaries Club Scholarships
Description: Two $4,000 scholarships will be awarded, with each scholarship payable in four equal installments of $1,000 per semester over the course of the following two academic years. In addition, three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded for the following academic year, payable in two installments of $1,000 per semester.
Eligibility Requirements:
Students must be entering a college or university as a freshman in the upcoming Fall semester.
The $4,000 scholarships are funded by the Nebraska Insurance Federation and will be awarded to students entering the University of Nebraska at one of its three campuses in Lincoln, Omaha, or Kearney.
The $2,000 scholarships are funded by the Nebraska Actuaries Club and will be awarded to students entering any college or university in the state of Nebraska.
Each scholarship is open to students graduating from any U.S. high school.
Students must major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics with an interest in pursuing an actuarial career.
All applicants must have demonstrated mathematical ability and evidence of some understanding of the actuarial field.
Scholarship recipients need to satisfy the following requirements before receiving the first installment of a scholarship:
(1) Meet with (in person or on the phone) a designated college Actuarial Science Academic Advisor or a member of the Nebraska Actuaries Club Scholarship Committee.
(2) You must provide the Nebraska Actuaries Club Scholarship Committee with your first semester’s class registration. You must be registered for at least one Actuarial Science class or a Math or Statistics class that would be part of an Actuarial Science major.
Scholarship recipients need to satisfy the following requirements before receiving the second installment of the scholarships:
(1) Provide a copy of your previous semester’s grade report. You must achieve at least a cumulative 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) to receive the next semester’s installment of the scholarship.
(2) You must provide the Nebraska Actuaries Club Scholarship Committee with your upcoming semester’s class registration. You must be registered for at least one Actuarial Science class or a Math or Statistics class that would be part of an Actuarial Science major.
Recipients of the Nebraska Insurance Federation Scholarships need to satisfy the following requirements before receiving the third and fourth installments of the scholarships:
(1) Provide a copy of your previous semester’s grade report. You must achieve at least a cumulative 3.33 GPA to receive the next semester’s installment of the scholarship.
(2) You must provide the Nebraska Actuaries Club Scholarship Committee with your upcoming semester’s class registration to show that you meet at least one of the following criteria:
a) Have declared as an Actuarial Science major or have an Actuarial Science minor/concentration, OR
b) Be registered for at least one Actuarial Science class or a Math or Statistics class that would be part of an Actuarial Science major.
(3) You must intend to pursue an actuarial career and you must confirm this intent with an Actuarial Science Academic Advisor or you must notify the Nebraska Actuaries Club Scholarship Committee of this intent if attending a university or college without a formal actuarial science program of study.
